Francis Schaeffer

About “FASICLD”
By Dr. Richard J. Krejcir

Who is Francis Schaeffer?

Francis Schaeffer is most credited with and the founding of L'Abri and helping ignite political activism, apologetics as well as deep biblical philosophical thinking amongst Protestant evangelicals in the 1950’s through the early 1980’s. Schaeffer also challenge the wakening Church to what he saw as the increasing influence of secular humanism and a deterioration of solid Biblical Discipleship. Hs insights have challenged many people and churches to seek faith and reason to how we lead and mange Christ’s Church. Francis Schaeffer did not ask of people to merely critique his work, rather it was his desire for Christian people to develop their skills in faith and reason, knowing His Word and applying Christ percepts into life and church. Thus, Schaeffer’s work was called to be applied, as what he called, “True Spirituality.” This is what we seek to do both at “Into Thy Word (ITW)” and “Francis A. Schaeffer Institute of Church Leadership Development (FASICLD).” Our distinction from other “Schaeffer” organizations is that we are about seeking to do as he exemplified in reference to how we do church. Most look to his works on philosophy and apologetics to which we wholeheartedly support. But, we feel his call to reform the Church and point it back to Christ’s preeminence and making disciples has gone mostly unheard.

What is the “Francis A. Schaeffer Institute of Church Leadership Development?”

Under Schaeffer’s guidance and vision, ITW and FASICLD were started in Carmel California as a think-tank and Bible literacy project. This endeavor came into fruition the late 70’s to strategize how to reach and train pastors and church leaders to focus on Christ centered principles.

Because of God’s call and Schaeffer’s influence, we desire to see a church committed to His purpose and poured out to His ways. Then we will see revival through real prayer and devotion to His Lordship.

Currently the Francis A. Schaeffer Institute of Church Leadership Development is in partnership with Into Thy Word Ministries (another Francis Schaeffer vision). Our current task is the collecting articles and essays by the Late Francis Schaeffer, as well as researching his materials and making application of them to help lead the church into a better more biblical direction.

Shortly after the formation of the Presbyterian Church in America, on 4 December 1973, Dr. Francis A. Schaeffer composed the following thoughts in observance of that event. Notable in his mind was the contrast between the divisions of the 1930's and the 1970's and the manner in which each of these divisions had been conducted.
God's Word will never pass away, but looking back to the Old Testament and since the time of Christ, with tears we must say that because of lack of fortitude and faithfulness on the part of God's people, God's Word has many times been allowed to be bent, to conform to the surrounding, passing, changing culture of that moment rather than to stand as the inerrant Word of God judging the form of the world spirit and the surrounding culture of that moment. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, may our children and grandchildren not say that such can be said about us.
Out of learning why churches fail, we also learned why they succeeded. The churches that were healthy, growing spiritually, and socially vibrant have significant aspects that set them apart from the failing churches. These factors are displayed in order of relevance and importance. Each one of these factors creates a harmony, contentment, and atmosphere for a churchgoer to come to church services and fellowship, and then to invite others.
